Student Council Elections at Kottonera

On 06th December 2018, the students at St. Margaret College Secondary School, had the opportunity to democratically elect the Student Council for the year 2018/2019. This process was coordinated by the Aġenzija Żgħażagħ Kottonera Regional Youth Service (AŻ@K).

For the election, an electoral commission was formed by the students who setup the rules and regulations of the election. During the same period, students from each year were encouraged to contest the Student Council elections. 20 students eventually put themselves forward.

During the three-week long campaign, the students had the opportunity to promote themselves during the assembly, create posters and spoke to students one to one. Over 90% of the school population voted with only a handful of votes being invalid ones. Once the voting process was over the electoral commission counted the votes for each year. 13 representatives were elected.

The new Student Council at the school will be run by the Youth Workers from AŻ@K. The Student Council will now start as from 19th December 2018 and will begin with a plan of action for the year 2018/2019. –

Pancake Day at Verdala courtesy of the Student Council

The newly elected St Margaret College Secondary School Student Council organised their very first activity: a Pancake Day. On 25th January 2019, they organized a pancake day from start to finish with the support of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ youth workers.

We cannot share the taste of the pancakes but we can give you a behind the scenes view.

The Student Council has listed several actions and activities that need to be implemented this year. Their first activity was successful through determination, dedication and teamwork. Every member of the Student Council had his or her own role and through these roles they managed to organise every task from planning, promotion and also tasks that needed to be carried out on the day.

The funds raised will be channelled to start implementing some of their ideas for the school. They were particularly pleased with the chemistry and bond between them which was an important factor that led to a great result. They were happy of the ideas brought up and the fact that everyone’s opinion is being heard. The Student Council is meeting every week to discuss future actions and activities to be organised thanks to the support of the Aġenzija Żgħażagħ Youth Workers.
